How much do you know about the Great Pyramid of Giza?

How tall is the Great Pyramid of Giza? 

The length of the Great Pyramid in 2560 BC. It is 147 meters high and took 20 years to build.
This means that it was the tallest man-made structure in the world in about 3,800 years.

How was the pyramid built?


It took 2.5 million pieces of stone, transporting and placing them.

Some of the limestone quarry is near the site, but the large granite stone came from Aswan, more than 500 miles away.

The Great Pyramid - also called the Pyramid of Khufu, named after the Fourth Pharaoh Dynasty for which it was built - is located next to the Pyramids of Menkaure and Khafri, and it perfectly aligns with the constellation of Orion.


What did the pyramids originally look like?


Although it's long gone, highly polished limestone blocks - known as casing stones - covered the surface of the pyramid.

It is believed that a massive earthquake eased many stones and was moved to build mosques in nearby Cairo.

The stones reflected the sunlight so well that the Egyptians called the pyramid "Ikhet", meaning "glorious light."

Were the pyramids built by the residents of Atlantis?

It was built by Atlantis ... or at least, this is what German conspiracy theorists Stefan Erdmann and Dominic Görlitz wanted.

They were given access to the Great Pyramid in April 2013, which turned out to be a big mistake.
The pair took cartridge samples in an attempt to prove that Khufu got credit for the structure when it was the people of Atlantis who built it.

They were arrested with their photographer and a number of members of the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities.
